~Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart form it.~ Proverbs 22:6 ESV
Recession effects continue to strain American society. The economic recession has had a major impact on American families and youths across the country according to the new report, “Growing Up in a Downturn,” released by The Salvation Army in March 2012. The report, based on a 2011 fourth quarter survey of 100 Salvation Army service centers, found increases in requests for youth programs & services, including education, food, arts, and theater, athletics and youth ministries. The Salvation Army centers, including Corps Community Centers and Ray and Joan Kroc Community Centers, have witnessed the need for summer and day camps, after-school programs, and other youth programming grow by 75 percent since 2008.
“Parents are facing difficult choices in relation to their child’s welfare every day,” said Captain Ken Shiels, Brown County Coordinator, “The Salvation Army of Brown County is here to support families through these hard times. And we are committed to helping them write a brighter future.”
Summer at The Salvation Army is a time of spiritual growth, physical activity, and new formation of friendships and FUN! Many families struggle with finding a place for their children to go during the summer break where they will be cared for in a safe, fostered and engaging environment. Look no farther than The Salvation Army Camp Hope and the Ray & Joan Kroc Kamp. The Salvation Army now provides summer camps on both the east and west side of Green Bay. |

Dear Friends:
Welcome to The Salvation Army’s website. This site will help you understand what we do in Brown County and the scope of services The Salvation Army provides. Whether it’s at The Salvation Army Union Court on the westside or the new Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center on the eastside, lives are impacted every day. |
To truly understand and be a part, you’ll want to come and see firsthand these life-changing miracles.
Part of The Salvation Army’s mission is to meet human need in His name without discrimination. Having spent only a short time here in Green Bay, I’m already so aware of the community’s spirit to do the same. Whether it is teaching our children how to read in the after-school program, scooping up a hot meal for the lunch program clients, donating boxes of backpacks for the back-to-school drive, or making a donation into a Red Kettle, our neighbors are simply amazing. We cannot be thankful enough for all that you do. You help ensure that we are fulfilling the basic needs of the underprivileged, while giving them the life-changing skills that show them how to become self-sufficient. Your extension of kindness also made certain we would be able to further provide enriching experiences through programs and services that encourage and strengthen children, adult and seniors at the Kroc Center.
Let’s face it—these are challenging times. It is easy to get overwhelmed…to lose your way. But as I roll up my sleeves to get to work here in Green Bay, I’m comforted knowing The Salvation Army is not alone in their goal to do the most good for our community.
God Bless You!
Captain Ken Shiels
