What We Do... Special Holiday Assistance... Adopt-A-Family

Each year, The Salvation Army receives requests from local corporations and individual families who wish to choose to "adopt" families for the holidays. Last year, more than 520 families were adopted through the following system.

We have structured our entire Adopt-A-Family program to operate as an anonymous program for both donor and recipient. In addition, we require the donor to provide gifts for every member of family and food for a complete holiday meal.

Those who wish to adopt should contact The Salvation Army between September and November each year. Occasionally they have the ability to match donors through early December as well. They can specify how large a family they are willing to provide for and will be given complete guidelines for this program.

During the INTERVIEWING process, families that can be matched are randomly asked if they would like to be an adopted family rather than receive other assistance.

This is a popular choice, so any given family that returns for special holiday assistance may only be allowed to be adopted once.

For full guidelines, contact 497-7053.
