Coats for Kids Collection to Kick Off Sept. 8!

With colder weather right around the corner, The Salvation Army will be collecting coats and monetary donations for children in need from Tuesday, Sept. 8 through Saturday, November 7 as part of Fox 11 and Cumulus Broadcasting's Coats for Kids. Listen to any Cumulus station or watch Fox 11 for future drop-off locations.
The traditional Packer game collection night will kick-start the activities on Sunday, September 13, when the Packers play the Bears. Volunteers will be collecting coats and money from fans prior to kickoff, from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. The collection volunteers will be in and around the parking lot at Lambeau Field and at all five gates.
“The Salvation Army is so fortunate to be on the receiving end of this community effort” said Major Gary Felton, Brown County Coordinator. “Given the difficult times we are facing, it warms the heart to know people eagerly donate new and gently used coats to those less fortunate in our area. The need is most certainly there, and thankfully, we’re able to make a great effort to accommodate it.”
“The Coats for Kids Program is vital to keeping our children dressed appropriately during our harsh Wisconsin winters,” said Caryn Forrest, Director of Social Services. “So many families in our community are unable to purchase appropriate winter wear for their children and this program gives the kids the opportunity to wear beautiful and warm new or like-new coats that not only keep them warm, but also help them to feel good about themselves!”
The Coats for Kids program is looking to reach a goal of 11,000 coats for kids in northeast Wisconsin. If you would like to volunteer for the Coats for Kids collection at Lambeau Field or for distribution day, please contact Swanzie Nash at 920-593-2375. Distribution is set for November 14, 2009. |
